10 Easy steps from Transcript to Story Sequence (Radio Cut)

  1. Prepare your transcripts (see the Help document for more details). Either:
    • Use your existing transcripts (and projects). prEdit will work with almost all current transcription formats that include time stamps or timecode. You can move a project into prEdit without any loss of entered log notes: these will be preserved, displayed in prEdit, and returned to the NLE using your existing transcripts.
    • Get new transcripts done at 3PlayMedia.com and use their JSON format. This format is the simplest and most accurate.
    • prEdit also supports transcripts coming from the Adobe speech analysis feature: either using the automatic transcription, with a script fed to Premiere Pro or Soundbooth, or using a transcript through an Adobe Story > Premiere Pro CS5 workflow, that preserves names and punctuation.
  2. Export Final Cut Pro XML of your source clips from Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 or Final Cut Pro.
  3. Import the Final Cut Pro XML file to prEdit to create a new project. Save the project.
  4. Add log notes and comments to the imported clip before subclipping selects. Apply a paper color for clarity (Optional).
  5. Split each transcript into selects (subclips) by inserting a return character in the transcript. A new thumbnail is generated for each new sublcip.
    • Log Notes and Comments can be modified on a subclip by subclip basis if desired.
    • Subclips can be previewed as video at any time.
  6. When all transcripts are processed, change to the Story View.
  7. Filter and search for the subclips you want, and start building a story by adding subclips to the Story list.
  8. Continue to rearrange, split and merge clips in the Story list until you have the story you want.
    • Selects and the Story can be previewed as video at any time.
  9. Add narration into the story. Narration will be immediately converted to temp audio for preview using the current Mac OSX system voice.
  10. Export an Excel spreadsheet; text transcript; or Final Cut Pro XML either direct to Final Cut Pro, saved to file for Premiere Pro or zipped for transfer to a remote location by email.
