The goal of First Cuts is to allow you to explore the stories that are in the material that has been logged for inspiration or as the starting point for an edit to use in the final product. Combining unrelated story keywords can also produce interesting results, for inspiration.
Edits of unreleased documentary footage about a young Australian actor/singer/dancer who was discovered in high school, performed cabaret in Sydney and New York, was cast in the 1999 Australian production of "The Sound Of Music," and was offered a recording contract. "Being Discovered" - edited:
This sequence started with the no limit version of Being Discovered and was then edited by Philip Hodgetts into a more finished piece, something that was significantly shorter and had an overall cutting pace. Including the time it took to go to First Cuts and back, this cut is a result of 45 minutes work and demonstrates how First Cuts can be used to get a starting point that a skilled editor can turn into polished in short order.

The Being Discovered/"The Sound of Music":
This edit was done on a whim -"What happens if you put two unrelated story keywords together?" Well, this is what happens when you choose the "Being Discovered" story keywords and the "Sound of Music" story keywords. From First Cuts cut, one longish clip explaining more detail about the context of the Master Class was dropped completely, and the Susan Schulman Clip (and associated B-roll) were moved one clip earlier than where First Cuts placed them.
